Diamonds vs. Moissanite: Making the Choice
An honest breakdown of clarity, brilliance, and value between the two stones.
When selecting a centerpiece for an engagement ring or a custom bespoke piece, the choice between lab-grown diamonds and moissanite is increasingly common.
Brilliance & Fire
Moissanite actually has a higher refractive index than a diamond. This means it bends light more, giving it a characteristic 'disco ball' effect — flashes of rainbow colors known as fire. Diamonds, conversely, reflect light in sharper white and gray flashes, known as brilliance.
Hardness
On the Mohs scale, a diamond is a perfect 10. Moissanite sits closely at 9.25, making it highly durable for everyday wear.
